The Supply And Demand Of Silicon Metal

Jan 06, 2025

From December to January, the supply and demand of silicon metal continued to show a mutually weak pattern.

According to SMM data, the output of silicon metal in December was about 332,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 18%. It is expected that the output of silicon metal will further decrease in January. Based on the supply and demand balance of silicon metal (Si ≥ 97%) and secondary silicon, if there is no new large-scale production reduction or shutdown on the supply side, it will be difficult for the silicon industry to achieve effective destocking.

In the past 1-2 weeks, downstream users have concentrated on replenishing stocks before the Spring Festival, and the transaction activity has increased slightly compared with before. The spot supply in the market is still abundant. It is expected that the spot price of industrial silicon will remain low in the short term.
