Silicon Metal's Production Quantity in Dec. 2024
Jan 06, 2025
In December 2024, China's metal silicon production decreased by 73,100 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 18.1% and a year-on-year decrease of 5.2%; the annual output from January to December 2024 increased by 1.098 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 28.9%.
In December, the production of metal silicon in Xinjiang, Yunnan, Sichuan and other regions decreased to varying degrees. The decline in Xinjiang's operating rate was mainly due to the maintenance of some production capacity of leading enterprises in December, which lasted for the whole month and had a great impact on production. The decline in the operating rate in Yunnan and Sichuan was mainly affected by the seasonality of the dry season, with rising electricity prices and continued declines in silicon prices, and the operating rate hit a new low in recent years. At the same time, the release of some new production capacity of metal silicon has driven the growth of production in Inner Mongolia and other regions, and the output has increased month-on-month.
In January, it is expected that the reduction in production of leading enterprises in Xinjiang will be further expanded, and the operating rate is expected to further decline; the number of silicon enterprises in Yunnan and Sichuan is expected to decrease, and the output will further decline; the output in Inner Mongolia and Gansu is expected to increase. Overall, China's metal silicon operating rate may remain weak in January 2025, and monthly output is expected to drop to around 310,000 tons.
