High carbon silicon (i.e., silicon carbon alloy) is a composite alloying agent used in steelmaking for deoxidation, silicon enrichment, and carbon enrichment. It primarily replaces ferrosilicon, silicon carbide, and carbon enrichers to reduce steelmaking costs and improve steel quality.
Core Applications
* **Steelmaking Deoxidation:** Rapidly reacts with oxygen in molten steel to generate slag that floats to the surface, shortening smelting time and improving deoxidation efficiency.
* **Simultaneous Silicon and Carbon Enrichment:** Unoxidized silicon and carbon dissolve into molten steel, adjusting the composition in one step and reducing the need for multiple alloying steps.
* **Improved Steel Properties:** Refines grain size, improving strength, hardness, and toughness; in cast iron, it can act as an inoculant, optimizing graphite morphology.
* **Energy Saving and Cost Reduction:** Replaces some expensive traditional materials (such as ferrosilicon and calcium carbide), reducing auxiliary material consumption and fluorite usage, thus lowering energy consumption and pollution.
Key Characteristics and Applications
* **Composition Characteristics:** Typically contains ≥55% silicon and ≥15% carbon, belonging to a Si-C composite alloy (non-silicon carbide SiC compound). Applicable Processes: Widely used in the deoxidation and alloying stages of converter and electric furnace smelting of plain carbon steel, alloy steel, and special steel.
Physical Form: Occurs in block, granular, or spherical form; high density, high recovery rate, and minimal pollution to molten steel. Note: "High carbon silicon" is different from the "silicon carbon anode" (a composite material of nano-silicon and carbon) in lithium batteries. The former is a metallurgical alloy, while the latter is an energy storage material; their fields and principles are completely different.
