Ferro Silicon Granule
Aug 11, 2025
I. Product Overview
Ferrosilicon granules are an alloy composed of silicon and iron, with the chemical symbol FeSi.
The silicon content is typically between 70% and 75%, while the iron content is between 20% and 25%. Ferrosilicon granules may also contain other impurities such as manganese, chromium, molybdenum, nickel, and vanadium.
Ferrosilicon granules are gray metallic particles, typically in block or powder form, with a density of 7.2 to 7.8 g/cm³ and a melting point of approximately 1200°C. At high temperatures, ferrosilicon granules are resistant to oxidation and have a high magnetic susceptibility.
II. Product Features
Uniform Composition and Minimal Segregation: The uniform composition of the ferrosilicon granules contributes to more stable performance during the smelting process.
Uniform Particle Size and No Fine Powder: The uniform particle size distribution of the ferrosilicon granules is free of fine powder, which helps ensure a more stable inoculation effect. Strong Inoculation Effect: Ferrosilicon granules have a stronger inoculation effect than ordinary ferrosilicon, more effectively promoting graphite precipitation and spheroidization, and improving the processability of castings.
Reduced Slag Generation: Ferrosilicon granules have a low tendency to produce slag during the smelting process, helping to reduce production costs.
Improved Casting Quality: Ferrosilicon granules can extend mold life, reduce surface defects in castings, reduce pinholes, improve the surface quality of cast pipes, and increase the first-pass inspection pass rate.
III. Product Applications
Steelmaking Industry
Ferrosilicon granules can be used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in the steelmaking process, helping to remove oxygen and other impurities from molten steel and improve steel quality.
Casting Iron Industry
Ferrosilicon granules are used as an inoculant and spheroidizing agent in the casting industry, preventing carbide formation in iron, promoting graphite precipitation and spheroidization, and improving the properties of cast iron.
IV. Product Specifications and Packaging
Ferrosilicon granules are available in various sizes, including 0.2-0.8mm, 1-3mm, 3-8mm, and 8-15mm. Custom packaging is also available. Packaging is typically in ton bags (1000kg/bag) or 25kg double-layer bags, but custom packaging is also available.
V. Other Applications
In addition to steelmaking and ironmaking, ferrosilicon granules can also be used in the manufacture of electrical equipment such as power transformers. They can also be used as a raw material for color-changing silicon granules, which are used to monitor moisture levels in oil-immersed transformers, instrument transformers, and electronic instruments. The homemade color-changing silicon granules involve heating and drying ordinary silicon granules and then mixing them with substances such as cobalt chloride.
