In the process of smelting metallic silicon, the heating of the electrodes in the furnace is not enough, resulting in the heat at the bottom of the furnace not reaching the temperature required to produce metallic silicon. This makes the silicon dioxide and carbon in the raw materials at the bottom of the furnace not react completely, and after a long period of accumulation, a high carbon silicon is formed.

It is deposited at the bottom of the melting furnace and needs to be cleaned every few months. But with the development of technology, the interval has been extended from 3 months to 6 months.
