What's High Carbon Silicon Lump

Oct 27, 2025

High carbon silicon lumps are a silicon carbon alloy used primarily in the steelmaking industry as a deoxidizer and a source of both silicon and carbon.

Characteristics and composition

Main components: Silicon and carbon

Typical composition:  Si>55%, C>15%

Other elements: Small amounts of silicon dioxide, phosphorus, and sulfur may be present

Form: Supplied in lumps, often with sizes like 10−50 mm

High Carbon Silicon - Steelmaking Material

High carbon silicon specifications  Size: 10-50mm, 10-100mm , or as the requirement of customer . Packing : One ton in common

Primary uses

Deoxidation:

Used as a composite deoxidizer in the smelting of carbon steel, replacing traditional materials like ferro silicon and calcium carbide

Alloying agent:

Can be used as an alloy agent in electric furnaces and can replace ferro silicon and recarburizer in iron casting

Cost reduction:

By providing both silicon and carbon, it can reduce the amount of separate deoxidizers and recarburizers needed, thereby lowering costs

Advantages in steelmaking

Improved efficiency: Provides good silicon activity, a high calorific value, and a stable, efficient deoxidation effect

Enhanced quality: Can improve the mechanical properties and overall quality of the molten steel

Energy savings: Reduces the deoxidation time and saves energy

Environmental benefits: Helps reduce environmental pollution
