What are the standards for recarburizers?

 

The standards for recarburizers mainly include: ash content; moisture content; volatile matter; sulfur; phosphorus; nitrogen; and fixed carbon content.

 

The application of recarburizers is a very important task. While mastering the usage methods and dosages, it's essential to learn how to analyze and summarize the results. The most important element in recarburizers is carbon. The main function of carbon is to increase carbon content, increase graphitization expansion, and reduce shrinkage porosity. Additionally, increasing the carbon equivalent can improve the fluidity of ductile iron, which is beneficial for filling and shrinkage.

 

High phosphorus content in molten iron expands the solidification range, but it doesn't provide low-melting-point phosphorus eutectic during the final solidification process, resulting in a weaker billet and a tendency to increase shrinkage cavities and porosity. The phosphorus content is generally less than 0.08%. During the smelting process, by increasing the molten iron temperature, the recovery rate can reach about 90%. If a low-temperature recarburizing process is used, with a lower molten iron temperature, carbon is dissolved and absorbed through electromagnetic stirring or manual stirring.

 

When using recarburizers in refining furnaces, the fixed carbon content must be above 90%, and the sulfur content should be as low as possible. With a water content of less than 0.5%, the required amount of recarburizer components was pre-calculated and slowly added to the exposed surface of the molten steel using an iron shovel. Stirring was maintained for 3-5 minutes, reducing the stirring intensity once the recarburizer was fully absorbed. This method yielded good results.
