The Short Introduction Of High Carbon Silicon

Mar 06, 2026

High carbon silicon (also known as silicon carbon alloy) is a composite alloy material with silicon and carbon as its main components, widely used in steel metallurgy and casting. According to the latest publicly available information, its main functions and applications are as follows:

Main Functions

High-efficiency deoxidation: High carbon silicon reacts rapidly with oxygen in molten steel to generate silicon dioxide, which floats to the slag, significantly reducing the oxygen content in the steel and shortening deoxidation time by 10-30%.

Carbon enrichment: Provides carbon while deoxidizing, helping to regulate the carbon content of molten steel and reducing dependence on individual carbon enriching agents.

Improved steel purity: Promotes the flotation of non-metallic inclusions, purifies the molten steel, and improves the mechanical properties and internal quality of the steel.

Desulfurization assistance: Some formulations can assist in desulfurization, reducing fluorite usage and fluoride pollution.

Process simplification: Can be directly added to the ladle or added with the steel stream, simplifying operation and suitable for continuous casting processes.

Main Uses

**Steelmaking Deoxidizer:** Widely used in converters and electric furnaces for smelting plain carbon steel (such as Q195, Q235, HRB400, etc.).

**Casting Alloying Additive:** Promotes graphitization in cast iron, improves ductile iron morphology, and reduces casting defects such as cracking and nozzle blockage.

**Replacement of Traditional Materials:** Can partially or completely replace ferrosilicon powder, carbon powder, calcium carbide, silicon carbide, etc., reducing production costs.

**Energy Saving and Environmental Protection:** Reduces the consumption of raw and auxiliary materials, lowers energy consumption and toxic gas emissions.
