The positive effects of high-carbon silicon alloys include:

1. Because the silicon content in high-carbon silicon alloys is over 50%, they have a strong deoxidizing effect. Furthermore, the deoxidizer contains no elements such as manganese, making it widely applicable.

2. Due to its high specific gravity, high-carbon silicon alloys easily penetrate the molten steel and combine with oxygen, effectively deoxidizing the steel and achieving high deoxidizer utilization.

3. Compared with pure aluminum, the production cost is significantly reduced, and the use of scrap steel can further reduce costs.

4. The high carbon content ensures high fluidity and mold filling performance during casting.

5. The remelting step in the preparation process allows the composition of the high-carbon silicon alloy to be adjusted to ensure reliable chemical composition and avoid the incorporation of harmful elements and other inclusions. 6. Inoculant is used before the alloy is removed from the furnace to prevent pulverization.


Example 1 Equipment: 160kW thyristor medium-frequency induction furnace, melting capacity 150kg.

Preparation Process:

a. Prepare 88kg of scrap steel and 1kg of 75SiFe. Shot-blast and derust the scrap steel.

b. Melt the scrap steel in a furnace until the temperature reaches >1570°C, then add ferrosilicon.

c. Remove the slag, remove the molten steel from the furnace, and cast it into ingots.

d. Test the ingots and adjust their composition to 0.40% C, 1.20% Si, 0.05% P, 0.04% S, and the balance Fe.

e. Remelt the ingots in the furnace and perform the required addition and removal to adjust the composition.

f. Raise the temperature of the molten steel to >1600°C, slag, remove the slag, and then add 71kg of semi-coke.

g. Stir, degas, deoxidize, and inoculate, then quickly cast the steel at a temperature of 1250-1280°C.

Post-furnace testing yields a high-carbon silicon alloy deoxidizer.
