Ferrosilicon is an important ferroalloy product, widely used in steel, casting and other industries. Let's take a closer look at the smelting process of ferrosilicon.

 

1. Composition of ferrosilicon
Ferrosilicon is an alloy composed of metal elements such as iron, silicon, carbon, and manganese, in which the silicon content is usually between 70% and 80%.

 

2. The smelting principle of ferrosilicon
The smelting principle of ferrosilicon is to reduce silica and metallurgical coke at high temperature. The reaction equation is:

SiO2 + 2C → Si + 2CO

This reaction needs to be carried out at high temperature, and the ratio of silica and coke needs to be appropriate, usually 1:3~4.


3. The main smelting method of ferrosilicon
There are many main smelting methods of ferrosilicon, among which the more commonly used ones are out-of-furnace and in-furnace:

1) Out-of-furnace smelting method

The out-of-furnace smelting method is to mix silica, coke and molten iron, melt them at high temperature in an electric furnace, and then pour out the ferrosilicon alloy obtained by smelting.

2) Furnace smelting method

The furnace smelting method is to load silica, coke and molten iron into a water-cooled lined furnace respectively and smelt under specific conditions, that is, molten iron is used in a large electric furnace to reduce silica and produce ferrosilicon alloy at the same time.

 

4. Matters needing attention in the smelting process of ferrosilicon
1.) The smelting of ferrosilicon requires strict control of smelting conditions, especially temperature, time and material ratio;

2.) The alloy composition needs to be continuously tested and adjusted during the smelting process to ensure that the quality of ferrosilicon alloy is stable and meets the requirements;

3.) If problems and difficulties are encountered in smelting, they need to be adjusted and solved in time to ensure the smooth progress of the smelting process.
