Industrial Silicon
May 13, 2024
Industrial silicon is silica plus carbon reducing agent, and is produced through electric furnaces to produce finished industrial silicon (99.99% > Si purity > 98.5%); there are three main downstream applications: organic silicon, polycrystalline silicon, and silicon-aluminum alloy (the demand for silicon in 2023 will account for The ratios are 26%, 52%, and 18% respectively), among which polysilicon has the largest demand growth rate in the past three years. Starting from 2022, its silicon consumption will officially exceed organic silicon.
The organic silicone industry chain is complex. The main products through monomers and intermediates (DMC) are silicone rubber (67%), silicone oil (27%) and silicone resin (6%). Its end applications involve electronic home appliances, construction, textiles, There are many traditional industries such as medical care. Among them, the new energy sector of electric power has increased in recent years, mainly the application of sealants in new energy vehicles and photovoltaics.
The largest demand for polysilicon (Si purity >99.9999%, 6N or above, divided into solar grade and electronic grade) is in the photovoltaic industry chain: polysilicon-silicon wafer-cell-cell module-photovoltaic products (demand accounted for more than 95%). Electronic-level applications are mainly on chips, and the overall usage is small.
