The Physical properties of high carbon silicon

Feb 17, 2025

Density

High carbon silicon has a lower density than steel, but a higher hardness than steel, showing the characteristics of high strength, high hardness and high toughness.

Electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity

High carbon silicon also has better electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity than steel, which makes it have significant advantages in the manufacture of carbide cutting tools, automated machinery parts and high-speed steel.

Melting point

High carbon silicon has a high melting point of about 1680℃, so it can work stably under high temperature and high pressure environment, and is suitable for the manufacture of high temperature resistant materials and high temperature alloys.
