What's the carbon content of ferrosilicon

Dec 19, 2025

The carbon content of ferrosilicon varies depending on its specific type and application; different grades and specifications have different carbon content ranges.

**General Ferrosilicon:** In mainstream industrial applications, such as the common FeSi75 or FeSi72 grades, the carbon content is usually controlled at a low level, with standards requiring a carbon content of no more than 0.2%.

**Low-Carbon Ferrosilicon:** Specifically used in applications with strict carbon content requirements (such as the production of high-grade non-oriented silicon steel), the carbon content can be below 0.015%, or even below 0.003%, to meet ultra-low carbon requirements.

**High-Carbon Ferrosilicon:** In the production of some alloy steels or special steels, the carbon content may be higher, ranging from 1.0% to 2.5%, to enhance the hardness and strength of the steel.

The actual carbon content needs to be determined based on specific product standards or application requirements. For example, electronic-grade ferrosilicon has even stricter limits on carbon content (usually below 0.01%).
