High carbon silicon lumps
Jun 27, 2025
High Carbon Silicon Lumps are a ferroalloy material composed mainly of silicon (Si) and carbon (C), with small amounts of iron, aluminum, calcium, and other impurities. They are commonly used in steelmaking and casting industries as a deoxidizer, alloying agent, and carburizer.
Key Features:
High Carbon Content (5-25%) – Provides carburization in steel production.
Silicon Content (55-75%) – Acts as a strong deoxidizer and improves steel quality.
Lump Form (10-100mm) – Easy to handle and add to furnaces.
Low Melting Point – Enhances efficiency in steelmaking.
Applications:
Steelmaking:
Deoxidizer: Removes oxygen to prevent porosity in steel.
Alloying Agent: Enhances hardness and strength.
Carburizer: Increases carbon content in molten steel.
Foundry/Casting:
Improves fluidity and reduces defects in cast iron.
Acts as an inoculant to refine graphite structure.
Other Uses:
Used in silicon carbide (SiC) production.
Sometimes added in welding electrode coatings.
Advantages Over Pure Silicon:
✔ Cost-effective (cheaper than low-carbon silicon).
✔ Dual function (deoxidizes & carburizes simultaneously).
✔ Improves furnace efficiency due to lower melting point.
Packaging & Storage:
Usually supplied in 1-ton jumbo bags or 25-50kg woven bags.
Should be stored in a dry, ventilated area to prevent moisture absorption.
