Applications of Ferrosilicon in Steelmaking

 

Ferrosilicon is an alloy composed of iron and silicon, primarily used as an alloying additive in the steelmaking process. Its main function is to improve the physical and chemical properties of steel, making it more suitable for various industrial applications. 1. Removal of Oxides: A large number of oxides are generated in molten steel during the steelmaking process. Ferrosilicon can act as a reducing agent to remove these oxides. 3. Adjustment of Steel Composition: Ferrosilicon can also be used as a modifier to adjust the composition of steel. Ferrosilicon can increase the silicon content in steel while decreasing the carbon content. This process can be achieved by altering the composition of ferrosilicon, such as increasing the silicon content or decreasing the carbon content.

 

4. Increasing Steel Fluidity
Ferrosilicon increases the fluidity of molten steel, making it easier to fill molds and form the desired shape. Ferrosilicon reduces the surface tension of molten steel, preventing the formation of bubbles and other inhomogeneities. This is crucial for the manufacture of precision steel castings and high-pressure boiler pipes.
