New Silicon-carbon Breakthrough Is Imminent, And It Is Expected To Account For More Than 75% By 2030

The new silicon-carbon material is ahead of traditional silicon-carbon and silicon-oxygen materials in terms of the first effect, capacity, cycle, and expansion of the battery, and is a "revolutionary technology product" for silicon-based negative electrode materials. The new silicon-carbon negative electrode industry is still in the early stages of industrial development, but the track is already crowded. According to incomplete statistics from GGII, more than 30 companies in China have deployed new silicon-carbon negative electrode technology (but no company can currently achieve a hundred-ton production capacity).
The breakthrough in engineering amplification and application after the technological breakthrough is the key. The next 3 to 5 years will focus on solving the problem of how to achieve large-scale continuous production. GGII believes that only 3 to 5 of the more than 30 companies will be able to achieve success.
The cost of new silicon-carbon is expected to be only higher than that of traditional silicon-carbon and first-generation silicon-oxygen after large-scale mass production. Therefore, GGII believes that the market share of new silicon-carbon is expected to exceed 75% in 2030 and become the mainstream of the market.
Traditional silicon-carbon and first-generation silicon-oxygen occupy a certain cost-effective market with their cost-effective advantages. However, the new silicon-carbon still has problems such as high cost, low yield (only 50-60%), inability to mass-produce (the industry is still making 20 kg equipment, and there is a gap in the industrial chain to support 100-ton equipment), and difficulty in controlling product consistency (affected by porosity, multiple batches of production, etc.), which need to be solved urgently.
