1.A Key Role in the Steelmaking Industry
In the final stage of steelmaking, deoxidation is an essential step to ensure steel quality. Ferrosilicon, with its strong chemical affinity for oxygen, has become a highly efficient deoxidizer, suitable for both precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. In addition, ferrosilicon also serves as an alloying agent. Adding an appropriate amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve its strength, hardness, and elasticity, thus it is widely used in the smelting of structural steel, tool steel, spring steel, and silicon steel for transformers. 4.A Key Role in the Pidgeon Process for Magnesium Refining
In the Pidgeon process for magnesium refining, ferrosilicon is used in the high-temperature smelting of metallic magnesium. It can displace magnesium from CaO and MgO, becoming an indispensable part of magnesium metal production. Approximately 1.2 tons of ferrosilicon are required to produce one ton of magnesium metal.
5.Other Applications
Finely ground or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as a suspended phase in the mineral processing industry. Meanwhile, the welding electrode manufacturing industry and the chemical industry are also important application areas for ferrosilicon.
