What is the application of high carbon silicon
Sep 03, 2025
High carbon silicon is a novel composite alloy deoxidizer that can replace more expensive traditional deoxidizers such as ferrosilicon powder, calcium carbide, carbon powder, and alloy powder. High carbon silicon boasts stable physical and chemical properties and excellent deoxidation effectiveness. When added to molten steel, it quickly reacts with oxygen, forming slag that floats to the surface, achieving the desired deoxidation effect.
High carbon silicon is suitable for deoxidation during the smelting of standard, alloy, and specialty steels. It offers advantages such as rapid deoxidation, shortened smelting time, rapid white slag formation, a rich reducing atmosphere, easy temperature control, reduced power consumption, increased lifespan of the furnace lining and roof, improved steelmaking efficiency, improved molten steel quality, and reduced consumption of raw and auxiliary materials. It also effectively reduces fluorite usage, lowers the concentration of toxic fluorine, and reduces environmental pollution, playing a significant role in improving the overall economic benefits of electric furnaces. High carbon silicon also has a certain desulfurization effect and a recarburizing effect, making it a suitable replacement for some recarburizers, significantly reducing steelmaking costs.
