The prospect of high carbon silicon
Feb 25, 2025
Application prospects of high carbon silicon: The converter uses high [Si] molten iron to make steel, which is prone to splashing and other problems. Silicon has a strong affinity for oxygen. It starts to oxidize and release a lot of heat at the beginning of oxygen blowing in the converter, resulting in too fast temperature rise during the converter blowing process.
Due to excessive addition of slag, large amount of slag, and serious slag foaming, it is very easy to cause explosive splashing in the converter, increase metal loss, and even burn out the equipment under the furnace, causing serious environmental pollution. Before using high carbon silicon, steel mills with conditions mainly reduce the [Si] content in molten iron through molten iron pretreatment, achieve less slag or slag-free operation, and reduce converter splashing.
Molten iron pretreatment generally uses sintered ore, pelletized ore, rich ore powder and iron oxide scale as desiliconizing agents. Through blowing and stirring, Si is oxidized to form slag, and the slag is finally fished out. Reduce Si to a range that can be blown, and then carry out converter smelting operations; another treatment method is to cast high Si molten iron into pig iron, and then put it into the furnace with scrap steel. Technical implementation factors of high carbon silicon: The smelting of high silicon molten iron has a series of problems such as serious splashing, large amount of slag increases metal loss, and even burns out the equipment under the furnace, causing serious environmental pollution.
