The introduction of carbon additive
Aug 19, 2024
There are many kinds of raw materials for carbon additive, and the production processes are also different. There are wood carbon, coal carbon, coke, graphite, etc., and there are many small categories under each category. High-quality carbon additive generally refers to a carbon additive that has been graphitized. Under high temperature conditions, the arrangement of carbon atoms is in the microscopic form of graphite, so it is called graphitization.
Graphitization can reduce the content of impurities in the carbon additive, increase the carbon content of the carbon additive, and reduce the sulfur content. The carbon additive is used in casting to greatly increase the amount of scrap steel, reduce the amount of pig iron or not use pig iron.
In the feeding method of electric furnace smelting, the carburizer should be put in together with scrap steel and other furnace materials. Small doses can be added to the surface of molten iron. However, it is necessary to avoid feeding large quantities of materials into the molten iron to prevent excessive oxidation and the situation where the carburization effect is not obvious and the carbon content of the casting is insufficient. The amount of carbon additive added is determined according to the ratio and carbon content of other raw materials.
Different types of cast iron require different types of carbon additive according to needs. The characteristics of the recarburizer itself are the selection of pure carbon-containing graphitized substances to reduce excessive impurities in pig iron. The selection of a suitable recarburizer can reduce the production cost of castings.
