Silicon carbon alloy as a new type of alloy

Sep 23, 2025

Silicon carbon alloy, as a new type of alloy, possesses numerous excellent properties.

First, from a physical perspective, silicon carbon alloy has a lower density than steel, but a higher hardness, exhibiting high strength, hardness, and toughness. Furthermore, its electrical and thermal conductivity are superior to that of steel. These physical properties give silicon carbon alloy significant advantages in the production of cemented carbide cutting tools, automated mechanical parts, and high-speed steel.

Second, the chemical properties of silicon carbon alloy are also outstanding. It exhibits good oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, remains stable at high temperatures, and has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and good thermal stability. These characteristics allow silicon carbon alloy to function stably in various media, leading to its widespread application in metallurgy, chemical industry, electronics, and semiconductor industries.

More specifically, silicon carbon alloy plays an important role in the steel industry. It can be used as an alloying agent in the steelmaking process, providing stable results and replacing ferrosilicon, silicon carbide, and carbon-adding agents, thus reducing the amount of deoxidizer used. Silicon-carbon alloy improves steel quality, enhances product performance, and reduces the amount of alloying elements required, thereby lowering steelmaking costs and increasing economic benefits.

In addition, silicon carbon alloy has good flame retardancy; it will not burn and release toxic or harmful gases at high temperatures, giving it a significant advantage in the production of high-temperature materials. Its melting point is also high, reaching approximately 1680°C, making silicon-carbon alloy highly resistant to high temperatures and suitable for use in high-temperature, high-pressure environments, making it ideal for manufacturing high-temperature resistant materials and high-temperature alloys.
