Role of Ferro silicon in Steelmaking

1.Product Properties. Ferro silicon is a convenient way to add silicon as an alloying element, which can improve various properties of the final steel.

2.Slag Reduction. In stainless steel production, the presence of silicon reduces chromium oxides in the melt and increases the absorption rate of metallic chromium.

3.Deoxidation. Ferro silicon quickly removes oxygen from the melt, thereby avoiding the formation of inclusion-forming oxides and preventing the loss of desirable elements.

4.Fuel. Some steel mills add ferro silicon to the melt, which can be burned to conduct heat into the furnace, thereby reducing energy costs.
