Main applications of high carbon silicon

1. Deoxidizer in steel smelting

High carbon silicon can be used as an effective deoxidizer in steel smelting to improve the quality of steel by removing oxides in molten steel. In the process of converter, electric furnace steelmaking and casting, high carbon silicon can effectively eliminate oxides in molten steel, thereby obtaining high-quality steel.

 

2. Alloying agent

High carbon silicon can form compounds with other elements in steel to strengthen and stabilize it. Silicon and carbon have an affinity for alumina and can undergo a reduction reaction on aluminum to obtain two compounds, SiAl2 and SiAl4, of which SiAl2 can further synthesize other Si-Al alloys.

 

3. Improve steel properties

High carbon silicon can improve the physical properties of steel, such as increasing strength and corrosion resistance, and improve the overall quality of steel.

 

4. Desulfurization in slag

Sulfur in molten steel and oxides formed during the production process will precipitate in slag. Carbon in silicon-carbon alloys can form sulfides with sulfur, thereby reducing the sulfur content in molten steel and the oxide content in slag.
