Five major roles of carburizer in steel smelting
Carburizer plays a vital role in the smelting process of steel products. Due to factors such as smelting time, insulation time and overheating time, the carbon element in the molten iron may be lost through melting, resulting in a decrease in carbon content and failure to reach the expected theoretical value. The role of the carburizer is to make up for this part of the lost carbon content to ensure that the steel meets the specific grade requirements.

1. Increase carbon content
Make up for carbon burnout: During the smelting process of steel products, due to factors such as long smelting time, insulation time and overheating time, the amount of carbon element in the molten iron will increase, resulting in a decrease in the carbon content in the molten iron, and the expected theoretical value cannot be reached. Carburizer can make up for this part of the burned carbon content and ensure the carbon content requirements of the specific grade of steel.
Increasing the graphite nucleation core of molten iron: The use of carburizer helps to increase the graphite nucleation core in the molten iron, which is crucial for the graphitization process of cast iron products, can reduce the tendency of white cast iron, and improve the machinability and mechanical properties of cast iron.

2. Improve physical properties
Increase strength and toughness: Increasing the carbon content in steel will increase the concentration of C elements at the grain boundaries, thereby increasing the strength at the grain boundaries and improving the toughness and ductility of steel.
Reduce shrinkage tendency: During the solidification of molten iron, graphitization has an expansion effect. Good graphitization can reduce the shrinkage tendency of molten iron and prevent or reduce defects such as shrinkage cavities and shrinkage in castings.

3. Improve chemical properties
Improve machinability: The use of carburizers can reduce white spots, significantly improve machinability, and make the cutting surface smoother.
Improve alloy properties: After adding a certain amount of Cr, Ni and other elements to alloy steel, corresponding carbides can be formed by increasing the carbon content, thereby improving the hardness and wear resistance of alloy steel.

4. Reduce costs
Increase the amount of scrap steel: During the casting process, the use of carburizers can significantly increase the amount of scrap steel, reduce the amount of pig iron or no pig iron, thereby reducing the cost of castings.
Use of rusted scrap: The addition of carburizer makes it possible to use rusted scrap and alloys, further reducing the cost of molten iron.

5. Other functions
Extend the service life of the furnace wall: The use of carburizer can extend the service life of the furnace wall and reduce maintenance costs.
Reduce the amount of slag generated: The use of carburizer can reduce the amount of slag generated and make the slag removal operation simpler.
