Ferrosilicon for casting
Jan 28, 2023
The quality of ferro silicon is harmful to steel castings. Ferrosilicon can be added to molten iron in casting to improve the degree of freedom of SiO2. Adding silica when smelting and casting pig iron can improve the forward flow, stabilize iron species, increase production and reduce consumption. When the amount of slag is small and high alkalinity sinter is used to smelt cast iron, the effect of adding silica is quite obvious; but when the amount of slag is large and the alkalinity is low, the effect of adding silica will be reduced. Generally, when the amount of slag is above 500kg/t, Silica can be omitted.
When ferrosilicon meets water, it will produce a large amount of odorless and toxic gas phosphine. Inhalation of phosphine poisoning will cause dizziness, headache, nausea, loss of appetite and other symptoms in mild cases. In severe cases, it will cause severe lung infection and even loss of life. Ferro silicon is water-absorbent, and it is easy to decompose and pulverize after being exposed to rain or moisture. It is often used as a deoxidizer for steelmaking and an alloying element additive for smelting various silicon steel and alloy cast iron. The warehouse where ferro silicon is stored must be ventilated frequently and kept dry.
