Ferro silicon alloy lump

Jun 05, 2023

Ferro silicon alloy lump is a type of ferroalloy that is composed of iron and silicon. This alloy is produced by melting iron and silicon together in a furnace. Ferro silicon alloy lumps are gray or silver in color and are available in different grades. The composition of this alloy can vary based on the amount of silicon and iron in it.

Ferro silicon alloy lumps find application in various industries due to their properties like high melting point, low density, and chemical stability. They are commonly used in the manufacturing of steel, cast iron, and other alloys. In steel production, ferro silicon alloys are added as an alloying agent to improve the strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance of steel. In cast iron production, it is used to reduce the carbon content of the iron and to improve its fluidity.

Apart from this, ferro silicon alloy lumps are also used in the production of welding electrodes and in the foundry industry for the manufacturing of molds and cores. Additionally, it is used in the production of aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys, and other non-ferrous metals.

1.Composition:

Common grades:  FeSi72, FeSi75 (numbers indicate % silicon content).

Impurities: Low levels of Al, P, S, C depending on the grade.

2.Appearance & Form:

Lump form (typically 10–100mm in size, but customizable).

Silvery-gray, brittle, and hard.

3.Key Applications:

Deoxidizer in steelmaking (removes oxygen from molten steel).

Alloying agent (improves steel hardness, strength, and corrosion resistance).

Inoculant in cast iron production (promotes graphite formation).

Hydrogen production (reacts with NaOH to produce hydrogen gas).

4.Advantages:

Enhances steel quality by reducing oxides.

Improves magnetic properties in electrical steels.

Cost-effective compared to pure silicon.

5.Packaging:

Usually supplied in 1-ton big bags, 25–50kg bags, or bulk loose lumps.
