Advantages of high carbon silicon in steelmaking

Sep 05, 2024

High carbon ferrosilicon is also called silicon carbon alloy. Its main elements are silicon and carbon. The common indicators of silicon and carbon composition are 4515, 5515, 6515 and 6818. It can be seen that its carbon content is relatively high, so it is also ferrosilicon with high carbon content. High carbon ferrosilicon is often used in steelmaking furnaces.

High carbon silicon is a new type of strong composite deoxidizer, which can also be used for the smelting of general steel and ordinary carbon steel. Its main elements are silicon and carbon. Silicon is highly active, reacts quickly and can also increase the furnace temperature, so high carbon silicon can replace the traditional heating agent with higher prices when making steel in converters and open furnaces.

High carbon ferrosilicon is a commonly used deoxidizer with the following advantages: carbon and silicon are important elements that determine the function of steel. High carbon silicon can not only react with oxygen in molten steel to achieve deoxidation, but the remaining unoxidized carbon and silicon can also be dissolved in molten steel to increase silicon and carbon. Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel. It achieves the effect of killing two birds with one stone. Deoxidation is required in steelmaking. The chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very strong, so ferrosilicon is a stronger deoxidizer in steelmaking and is used for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation.
