Is calcium fluoride needed for smelting industrial silicon?

Answer: Calcium fluoride is needed for smelting industrial silicon. According to relevant public information, since there is a trace amount of iron in the raw materials of the submerged arc furnace used in smelting industrial silicon, the reduction reaction of silicon dioxide is easy to proceed. Calcium fluoride is conducive to accelerating the reaction between carbon dioxide and silicon, so that silicon is generated faster.

The production process of industrial silicon is as follows. Industrial silicon, that is, metallic silicon crystalline silicon, is mainly manufactured by electrothermal chemical reaction of silica, carbonaceous reducing agent and loosening agent in a submerged arc furnace. It is a key raw material for the production of organic Si silicon, polycrystalline silicon and aluminum alloy.

First, the raw materials are sent to the material yard of the submerged arc furnace workshop, and then the materials are sent to the top silo or the storage silo of the operating platform through the conveying equipment according to the proportion of the materials. The operator will add the materials to the furnace according to the instructions of the furnace mouth.

When the power is turned on, the electrodes in the submerged arc furnace release electric sparks to melt the raw materials. The molten material is poured into the ingot mold after slagging and cast into an ingot, and then the silicon ingot is cooled and demolded. Then, the crushing, sampling, testing, grading, packaging, weighing and other processes are carried out, and finally the product is put into storage.
