In the second round of the World Cup group match, Germany drew 1-1 with Spain. Muller commented on the performance of the game in an interview after the game:
"The draw felt good, we were up against a strong Spain. It wasn't the smartest game we played, but the team gave it their all. We still have a chance to qualify anyway, now we have to beat Costa Rica and Let’s hope the other one turns out in our favour.”
