What's The Craftmanship Of Silicon Carbon Alloy

Dec 26, 2025

There are two main production processes for silicon carbon alloys: the electric furnace method and the metallurgical method.

1. Electric Furnace Method: The electric furnace method uses silica and coke as the main raw materials, which are mixed in a specific ratio and placed in a high-temperature electric furnace. At a high temperature of 1800-2000℃, the silica and coke undergo a chemical reaction to produce a silicon carbon alloy. The key to this method lies in the raw material ratio and pretreatment, ensuring uniform mixing and appropriate particle size to guarantee the stability of the final product's composition and quality standards. The electric furnace method is relatively mature, has a large production capacity, and is currently the most widely used production method.

2. Metallurgical Method: The metallurgical method uses ferrosilicon and silicon carbide as the main raw materials, and prepares silicon carbon alloys through a smelting reaction in a high-temperature smelting furnace. This method requires high purity of raw materials and precise control of smelting temperature and time to ensure the uniformity of the alloy composition. Silicon carbon alloys produced by the metallurgical method generally have better compositional consistency, but the production cost is relatively high.

Regardless of the production process used, strict control over key parameters such as raw material quality, proportioning accuracy, and smelting temperature is essential. Modern silicon carbon alloy production also involves adding other alloying elements to adjust product performance, meeting the specific requirements of different industrial applications for the composition and quality of silicon carbon alloys.
